Welcome, Cheryl!
We are so excited to welcome a new NWI Center for Maternal Wellness volunteer, Cheryl Struzik!
Cheryl is a registered nurse of more than 24 years. She has been a NICU nurse since starting as a new graduate RN, spending 12 years in a level 3 NICU in Chicago and the last 12 in a level 2 NICU in Dyer, Indiana. She briefly worked in outpatient surgery, which she loved, but the NICU has always been where her heart is. Recently, Cheryl completed a clinical advanced placement at work, and it was during the preparation for this when she discovered trauma-informed care. Cheryl has completed advanced training in this area along with a perinatal bereavement certificate through AWHONN, leading her to develop a bereavement program at her facility. She also started volunteering as a mentor with Teen Mother Choices, a program with ANEW Ministries. TMC offers support and guidance for young moms to fully flourish in motherhood.
Babies are her specialty, and Cheryl recognizes that ensuring the best outcome for the baby means mom is healthy and supported in her postpartum journey. This belief led her to focus on maternal mental health and brought her to the NWI Center for Maternal Wellness. Cheryl is excited to connect with NICU moms and loss moms who are looking for postpartum guidance and a place to feel safe and supported. Cheryl recently completed the Perinatal Mood Disorders 2-day training offered through Postpartum Support International and will be taking the exam next month for her Perinatal Mental Health Certification.
Cheryl’s proudest role is mom to two incredible kids, ages 20 & 17. They are both rainbow babies, and through her own struggles with pregnancy loss, along with her professional experience of guiding NICU families through their experiences, Cheryl’s mission is to help moms navigate the postpartum period and support their overall well-being, helping them to feel less alone in their journey.
Welcome to the Center, Cheryl! We are so grateful to have you on our team!
