We are so excited to welcome a new NWI Center for Maternal Wellness volunteer, Ashley Sak! Please take a few moments to read about Ashley's motherhood journey. She is passionate about supporting other moms and is excited to join the volunteer team at the Center!
"Hi! My name is Ashley and I am so excited to be a new volunteer for the NWI Center for Maternal Wellness. I grew up in the area but moved to Florida to attend college at Florida State University. After graduating from college, I proceeded to live in Florida for almost a decade and worked for the State of Florida with children and families for my last few years down there.
I moved back to NWI in 2013 to be closer to my family and got a job working with children and families for the State of Indiana. Growing up I was a competitive gymnast and then a coach for many years. I only recently took a break from that to have my daughter. Despite working with children for many years, I never thought I would have my own; however, in 2019 I met my husband, Kyle. We married in 2022 and had our amazing daughter, Teagan, in 2025. I was 39 when she was born.
I had some struggles during my pregnancy with anemia and being of what is now called advanced maternal age, but I struggled even more after my daughter’s birth. I dealt with severe pelvic floor pain and was in pelvic floor physical therapy for several months after her birth. I was “technically” cleared by my doctor after 6 weeks but couldn’t even take my daughter for a walk around the block or stand for too long without feeling pain for nearly 5 months after her birth.
My husband and I love to travel and can’t wait to show our daughter so many new places. When I’m not working, traveling, or being a mom and wife, I enjoy working out, reading and attending to our 3 crazy dogs. I work part time at a dog kennel and train my dogs in both Agility and Nosework classes. I also compete in dog trials with them when I have time.
I am looking forward to volunteering and helping to support women. By sharing my story, I want to help other mothers know that they are not alone."
Welcome to the Center, Ashley! We are so grateful for your commitment to supporting NWI moms!
